Working in compliance is not a job for everybody; it requires a meticulous nature and a hard skin as you play a key role in inspecting other’s working practices, processing complaints and reviewing legal circumstances. The nature of the compliance officer is to keep checking and checking again and so naturally many workplace jokes have developed. Compliance jobs may not be for everyone but the hard skin developed for the role means these jokes will be taken with a pinch of salt too!
One of the most popular jokes about compliant officers is the classic “Doctor, Doctor” joke which goes:
“Doctor Doctor I think I’m a compliance officer!”
“Well, have you double-checked?”
This jokes mocks the meticulous nature of those working in this field.
The Classic Light Bulb Gag
Another one of the most popular compliance officer jokes is the classic light bulb gag which can be adapted for hundreds of situations. For compliance it goes:
“How many compliance officers does it take to change a light bulb?”
“Three. One to change it, one to check it and one to check it again and file a report.”
This again plays on the fact that compliance officers need to check things closely and are viewed by others in the office as a little obsessive.
There are plenty of other popular jokes about compliance officers including:
“Did you hear about the two compliance officers who got married? She regulates the length of his toenails and he requires her showers to be less than two minutes long”
This joke plays on the fact that compliance officers are meticulous in nature and therefore apply their tactics from work at home too.
There are even jokes which sway to the bizarre such as
“An evil genie captured a compliance officer and her two friends and banished them to a desert for a week. The genie allowed each person to bring one thing. The first friend brought a canteen so he wouldn’t die of thirst. The second friend brought an umbrella to keep the sun off. The compliance officer brought a car door, because if it got too hot they could just wind down the window.”
This plays upon the idea that compliance officers are only able to focus on work tasks so have no common sense. This final and perhaps funniest joke we have plays upon this same idea and goes:
“Why did the compliance officer laugh three times at the joke? Once when it was told, once when it was explained and once when they understood it.”
All these jokes are meant to be a bit of light fun to keep everyone amused in the office and of course no malice is involved. Compliance officers do a valuable job in every environment and should be celebrated as well as occasionally gently mocked, as maybe the rest of us should be also!
